HBO’S MAKING GAME OF THRONES INFOGRAPHIC REVEALS WHO FATHERED JON SNOW

HBO confirms Rhaegar is Jon Snow’s father on an info-graphic (below), posted on their Making Game of Thrones blog.  In the season 6 finale, we all learned Lyanna Stark gave birth to Jon, who apparently came out of the womb sulking.  Since R+L=J has been all over the internet since for years on ASoI&F fan forums, but really took off after the show started and show fans clamored for more information on their favorite emo Lord Commander.

The release dates for The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring are unknown.  As a huge fan of ASoI&F, and hardcore annoying book purist, I get it. Jon’s parentage wasn’t a secret that could be kept much longer, with only two shortened seasons remaining.  HBO can’t wait for GRRM to finish A Song of Ice & Fire.

HBO hasn’t confirmed all theories about Jon Snow’s parentage.  They have Lyanna Stark listed as “abducted” by Rhaegar Targaryen.  The events leading to Jon’s conception are almost as important as who Jon’s father is; because an abduction and rape mean Jon is still a bastard.  However, if Rhaegar and Lyanna did marry, well, that makes Jon the rightful King of Westeros, doesn’t it?   Could Rhaegar have married both Elia Martell and Lyanna Stark? Would that have even been possible?  Will Sam find the answer in the Citadel library?
