THE CW PICKS UP FRESHMAN DRAMA “RIVERDALE” WITH EARLY RENEWAL FOR 2017-18 SEASON

The CW Network has given an early renewal to its acclaimed freshman drama, Riverdale, for the 2017-18 season, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW.  The teen drama is based loosely on the Archie comics.

Unfamiliar with the show? Archie and his friends find themselves in the middle of the mystery surrounding star football player Jason Blossom’s death.  Part of the buzz surrounding the show is its Twin Peaks vibe (Mädchen Amick of Twin Peaks fame portrays Alice Cooper, Betty’s Mom).  Is it Twin Peaks caliber?  No.  Is it entertaining?  Yes.

Riverdale airs on Thursday night, a very competitive night of television.  The show has seen tremendous ratings gains on a delayed viewing basis.  It has become one of CW’s most streamed shows on the network’s digital platforms, including The CW app and CWTV.com.
